David Bowie y la literatura
David Bowie murió en 2016, en New York, convertido en una leyenda mundial. Se sabe todo de este cantante pero una de sus facetas menos conocidas es que era un apasionado lector. Hemos podido conocer sus gustos literarios gracias a la labor del periodista británico John O’Connell y su ensayo titulado El club de lectura de David Bowie, donde reflexiona sobre la influencia de sus lecturas en su obra, en la que sugiere que la muchacha aburrida de ‘Life On Mars?’ podría estar inspirada en Emma Bovary.

Para poder leer en las giras, viajaba con nos baúles repletos de libros. Esto incuso le causó algún problema con los agentes de aduana soviéticos, cuando descubrieron tomos dedicados a Albert Speer y Joseph Goebbels.

En varias ocasiones David Bowie sugirió que estaba escribiendo una novela, y habló de sus planes de publicar una autobiografía ya en los años setenta, para la revista Rolling Stone: "Todavía no he leído una autobiografía de un rockero que tuviera el mismo grado de presunción y arrogancia que solía tener un disco de rock and roll. Así que he decidido escribir mi autobiografía como una forma de vida". En 2003 volvió a referirse a la idea, en The Word, aunque admitió que "nunca se completará en mi vida".
Por desgracia, el libro nunca salió a la luz y se desconoce si terminó de escribirlo.
